Here is what you need to begin the process of making your own sourdough bread. This recipe has few ingredients, but all it requires is time and patience!

- 1 cup of whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup of cool water
1Mix together the water and flour in a glass jar (I use a large, lidded mason jar).
2Cover the jar and let it sit at room temperature (70 degrees) for 24 hours.
3After 24 hours, begin to feed the starter by discarding all but 1/2 cup (the discard can be composted or thrown out, or used in a recipe calling for sourdough discard).
4With the remaining 1/2 cup, mix in another 1 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of lukewarm water.
5Cover and repeat every 24 hours.
6Starter will begin to activate and you will see it bubbling. After the starter is activated, begin feeding it twice a day (every 12 hours).
7Repeat this for at least a week before using in any recipes.
